Step by Step Instructions on How to Make Halloween Garland
Step 1: Preparing the Patterns
Let’s start with the pumpkin craft. Trace the pumpkin base on orange-colored felt fabric and trace the stem on green-colored felt fabric. Cut out the traced patterns nicely.
Use a pen to trace the face on any one of the pumpkin base cutouts.

Step 2: Stitching the Stem and Face
Prepare a needle with black thread and stitch along the traced face. This is the front side of the pumpkin plush.
Use green thread to stitch the stem cutout on the top middle part of the front pattern. Overlap the stem slightly at the bottom and stitch the overlapped part with the pumpkin front base.

Step 3: Arranging the Patterns
Place the front base on the top of the plain base cutout and prepare a needle with orange thread.
Start to stitch around the sides of the base cutouts to join them together. We’re doing flat blanket stitches.

Step 4: Stuffing the Pumpkin
Keep a small opening to stuff the felt pumpkin pattern. You can either use cotton or scrap felt, whichever is available. Stuff the pumpkin pattern with enough cotton or scrap felt to give it a nice and fluffy look.
Once you’re done stuffing, close the open end and tie 2 tight knots to secure the stuffing. Cut off extra thread if required.

Step 5: Preparing the Candy Corn Pattern
Trace 2 candy corn base patterns on white felt, the bottom layer on yellow and the middle layer on orange felt. Trace the arms and legs on yellow felt as well. Use a pen to trace the face on the middle (orange) layer.
Stitch the face

Step 6: Preparing the Ghost Patterns
Trace the ghost patterns (2 bases and 2 arms) on white felt. Draw the face on any one of the base cutouts and use a black thread to stitch the traced face.

Step 7: Completing all 3 Plush Patterns
The basic process for all 3 patterns is pretty much similar. Stitch the face, stitch other items and then stitch the 2 bases and finally stuff them.

Step 8: Preparing String for the Halloween Garland
Now, we’ll show you how to make Halloween garland with these felt plush patterns. Prepare a long piece of string and make sure it is nice, straight, and tangle-free.

Step 9: Adding the Patterns to the Garland
Add the plush patterns with the string on their backsides. If you want to attach them to the string permanently, you can use hot glue but if you want to attach the temporarily, you can use scotch tape.

Step 10: Complete the Garland!
Keep small and even gaps between the plush patterns while adding them to the string to make the Halloween garland.

How to Make Felt Garland: Tips for Beginners
This Halloween garland is quite easy, but beginners often face difficulties crafting with felt. In case you’re having difficulties, you can check out the following tips.
- For small patterns it’s always better to use medium light felt, not too thick nor too thin.
- Use pencil or fabric chalk to trace the patterns, otherwise, using a sharpie or gel pen will leave marks on the felt.
- Use matching threads to stitch each item to give them a neat look.
- Do flat-blanket stitches to join the sides.
- If you don’t have cotton, you can cut leftover felt fabrics into small pieces and use them for stuffing.
