How to Make Gum Wrapper Hearts (Folding Instruction + Video)

In today’s tutorial, we’ll show you how to make gum wrapper hearts. Gum wrapper heart is a fun and creative origami project that you can make using empty gum wrappers.

Hello crafty people, how about we try a recycled craft today? Like many, I love gum and sometimes I try to make beautiful things out of the wrapper. Isn’t it a great way to recycle and reuse something that would otherwise be discarded?; and the end result is a cute and charming little heart that can be used as a decorative item or a unique gift. You can add gum wrapper origami hearts to gift boxes or gift cards to add some cuteness or use them for other crafts.

A gum wrapper heart would cost the price of gum; in that case, the cost would be zero! This origami craft requires a few minutes only and it’s super beginner-friendly.

How to Make a Gum Wrapper Heart

It’s actually an origami gum wrapper heart. So, no tool is required for this craft.

Materials

• Gum wrapper (the rectangle gun wrapper)

Step-by-Step Instructions to Make Gum Wrapper Hearts

Step 1: Base Fold

Take a gum wrapper and flatten it on a flat and even surface; keeping the silver (or finished side) facing down. Fold in the wide side (use the creases on the gum wrapper as folding lines) of the wrapper and flatten it neatly.

Step 2: Narrow and Half Base Folds

Fold-in the opposite side (narrow side) and flatten it neatly with the rest of the pattern. Basically, we just folded the paper as it was wrapped around the gum, except for the 2 small-open sides.

Step 3: Form the Right Side

Unfold the half-fold. Fold up the right-half side of the pattern and align the bottom half-right side with the middle crease of the pattern.

Step 4: Form the Left Side

Similarly, fold up the bottom left-half side and align it with the middle crease of the pattern. Both the right and left sides should be aligned adjacent to each other. Now, turn the whole pattern to the other side.

Step 5: Form the Top-Right Side

Notice the extra parts along the top. Let’s start from the right side. Fold the extra part of the right side in half. Now, fold the right corner of that part inwards.

Step 6: Form the Top-Right Side

Fold in the left corner of the right part. Then, fold the top corner and the outer corner slightly inwards

Step 7: Form the Top-Left Side

Similarly, fold the left extra part of the origami pattern to complete the gum wrapper heart. Then, turn the pattern to the other side.

How to Make a Heart With Gum Wrapper: Tips for Beginners

Here are some tips if you’re having difficulty learning how to make gum wrapper hearts.

• Use gum wrappers that are rectangular. The square (1:1) gum wrappers won’t work for this craft.
• Make sure to make the base folds along the creases of the gum wrapper.
• You can use printed paper or colored craft papers of the rectangular gum wrapper’s ratio to use them for this craft.
