    Instructions to Make Dinosaur Plush

    Step 1: Preparing the Patterns

Tracing and cutting patterns for dinosaur plushie

Select felt fabrics for the dinosaur plush and trace the template patterns on them. Cut out the traced patterns using scissors. The patterns include 2 body base patterns, 3 circles (spots) for the body, 2 circles (1 big and 1 small) for the eyes, and 1 scale pattern (the zigzag bordered pattern).

Tip: Use sharp scissors for clean cuts, and pin the patterns to the fabric to prevent slipping while cutting.

Step 2: Assembling the Eye Patterns

Place the black felt circle (small) on the white felt circle (big) and then place them on the head part of any one of the dinosaur body base cutouts.

Step 3: Stitching the Dinosaur Plushie Eyes and Mouth

Prepare a needle with white thread and stitch a small white dot pattern on the black part of the eye, making sure to stitch all three patterns (body and 2 eye circles) together.

Next, prepare the needle with black thread again and stitch the black part with the rest of the pattern. You won’t need to stitch the white circle of the eye as it is already attached to the dinosaur head part.

Step 4: Placing the Scale Pattern

Placing scale pattern on dinosaur plushie body

Take the plain body base cutout of the dinosaur pattern and place the zigzag bordered cutout (the scale pattern) along the top side of the body cutout, keeping the zigzag side facing outside. Make sure to overlap both pieces by half a centimeter.

Step 5: Stitching the Scale Pattern of the Plush

Now, place the eye-stitched body base cutout on top of the plain one. Prepare the needle with matching thread and start to stitch around the side to attach the two body cutouts together. Do a running stitch along the top side, with the scale pattern between the body base cutouts.

Tip: Make sure to keep your stitches evenly spaced for a neat finish.

Step 6: Stuff the Dinosaur Pattern

For the rest of the stitching, use flat blanket stitches. Remember to keep a small opening before closing the stitch. You can use cotton or scrap felt for stuffing. Keep stitching and stuffing until the whole felt dinosaur is filled.

Step 7: Stitch to Close the Open End

Once you’re done stuffing, close the open end with flat blanket stitches. Tie a knot, draw the needle inside the plush, and then pull it back out. Cut off any excess thread.

Warning: Make sure the opening is securely closed to prevent the stuffing from coming out during play.

Tips for Making Your Dinosaur Plushie

If you’re new to making plushies, here are some important tips to help you along the way:

    1. Use Good Quality Felt: Choose soft and colorful felt that is easy to cut and sew. This will make your dinosaur look great.
    2. Pin Your Patterns: Use straight pins to hold your patterns on the felt while you cut. This keeps everything in place for neat cuts.
    3. Practice Basic Stitches: If you’re not confident in your sewing skills, try some simple stitches on scrap felt before starting. This will help you feel more comfortable.
    4. Stuff Gently: Don’t overstuff your dinosaur. Keep it soft and cuddly while making sure it holds its shape.
    5. Have Fun: Enjoy the crafting process! Remember that each plushie you make is unique and special, even if it’s not perfect.
