Tutorial

step 1 1 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Prepare the Patterns

Select coloured craft papers for the spiral patterns to make the flowers and green craft papers for the leaves. Trace the hair pattern on black coloured paper and cut it out nicely. Cut out the head pattern on any coloured paper of your choice but make sure that it resembles a skin tone for the doll. Cut out all traced patterns using scissors.

step 2 1 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Craft the Flowers and Doll’s Head

Attach the hair pattern on the top side of the head pattern. Use the spiral patterns to create flowers by rolling the entire spiral from its outer edge towards the centre. Glue the rolled part of the spiral and join it with the centre to make the flower.

Complete the Doll Head Craft

Attach the paper flowers and the leaves on the hair part of the papercraft. Use a black gel pen to draw the eyes, nose and mouth of the Frida Kahlo paper doll.

step 4 1 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Craft the Paper Dress (Skirt)

Trace and cut out the round patterns from the provided skirt template on different coloured craft papers. Create accordion folds on the round cutouts.

Prepare the Doll’s Body

I’m using a cardboard roll (tissue paper tube) for the body of the Frida Kahlo doll. Trace and cut out the cone template on a brown coloured cardstock paper (or the same colour as the cardboard tube you’re using). Use the cone template cut-out to make the cone. This will be the upper body (shoulder) of the doll.

step 6 1 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Craft the Doll’s Body

Attach the cone pattern on the top side f the cardboard tube. Make a 1 cm deep slit on the top end of the cone.

step 7 1 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Dress up!

Insert the accordion folded paper skirts through the cardboard tube one by one. Use glue to fix their position inside the tube.

step 8 - DIY Frida Kahlo Paper Doll

Almost Done!

Insert the neck side of the head through the slit of the cone. Wrap a paper around the top body part of the doll (scarf) and add embellishments to decorate the doll however you like.

Completing the Doll Craft

I’ve added triangle earrings cutout from golden glitter papers and a paper flower on the scarf. You can add more details and embellishments if you’d like!

Wasn’t that fun! I hope you enjoy the craft as well and maybe come up with more beautiful, colourful and fun patterns for it!
