How to Make a Wooden Beaded Charm

Step 1: Cut the Leather Strip and Tie the Loop Knot

Use your ruler and pencil to mark a strip on the leather about 1.5 cm wide and 22-25 cm long. Cut cleanly along the line with your X-acto knife, pressing the blade firmly against the ruler so the strip comes out straight.

Fold the strip in half so both ends meet at the bottom. Pinch the folded end and tie a small overhand knot about 2 cm down from the fold, leaving a small loop above it. That loop is what clips onto the key ring, so keep it round and even before pulling the knot tight.

Step 2: Thread the Beads Onto Both Strands

Work from the open end (the two free strands at the bottom) and push both leather strands through each bead together. Wooden beads with wide holes make this easy; if a bead feels too snug, set it aside and try a different one.

Mix colors and shapes as you go. Alternating a large round bead with a smaller disc bead gives a nice rhythm, but there’s no wrong order. Stop when you have about 3 cm of strip left below the last bead. You need that slack for the closing knot.
