Step by Step Instructions: Crochet Mini Christmas Wreath
Step 1: Start with the Base Loop
Select your yarn (we’re using green) and hold the open end of the yarn. Start by making a slip knot.
Work 10 chain stitches. Do not count the slip knot as a chain stitch.
Tip: Make sure your chains are evenly tensioned so the base loop will be neat.
Step 2: Join the Chains to Form a Loop
Keeping the hook inside the last stitch, insert the hook through the first chain stitch. Work a slip stitch to join the 2 open ends of the chains. We have the base loop for the mini Christmas wreath. Counting this base loop as our round 1.
Chain 2 and then work a double crochet (DC) into the base loop.
Step 3: Work Double Crochets for Round 2
Work 24 more DC into the base loop, making sure they are evenly spaced.
Insert the hook into the top stitch of the first DC of this round and work a slip stitch to close round 2 of the crochet pattern.
Tip: If the base loop starts to curl, gently flatten it out to ensure an even wreath shape.
Step 4: Add the White Yarn
Leave about an inch of the green yarn, then cut it. Take your white yarn and insert the hook through any of the top stitches from the previous round. Yarn over with the white yarn, pull through, and then work 3 chain stitches (CH).
Work 1 single crochet (SC) into the same stitch.
Warning: Make sure to leave a small tail of the white yarn when you start, so it can be woven into the back of the wreath for a clean finish.
Step 5: Begin the Single Crochet and Chain Pattern
Work 1 SC into the next stitch and then chain 2.
Step 6: Continue the Pattern Around the Wreath
Work 1 SC into the same stitch where you just chained. Continue working 1 SC, chain 2, and 1 SC into each of the next stitches. Repeat this pattern until you reach the starting stitch. Finally, make a slip stitch into the second chain.
Secure the yarn tails on the backside of the wreath for a clean finish.
Tip: If the pattern seems too tight, adjust the tension of your stitches slightly.
Step 7: Add the Decorative Bow
Prepare a tapestry needle with red yarn and insert the needle through the green part of the wreath, from the front. Work running stitches around until the other end of the yarn is near the first end. Both ends should have enough length to tie a bow.
Finally, make a cute little bow and cut off extra yarn.
Suggestion: To keep the bow looking neat, adjust the loops before tightening it completely.
