Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Vertical and Horizontal Half Creases

Select a colored craft paper for the origami heart bookmark. Prepare a 15cm x 15m square sheet from the paper. Take the square sheet and make vertical and horizontal half folds/ creases on the paper.
Step 2: Fold an Open Side
Now, fold any one open side of the square sheet along the horizontal half crease of the sheet.
Step 3: Turn and Fold a Corner
Turn the current origami pattern to the other side. Fold half of the closed side of the current pattern along the vertical middle crease of the current pattern.
Step 4: Fold-Up 2 Corners and Turn

Similarly, fold the other edge along the other side of the vertical middle crease. Turn the current origami pattern to the other side again.
Step 5: Fold Current Pattern in Half
Hold the pointy edge and fold it to the opposite side. Or simply, fold the current pattern in half asymmetrically.
Step 6: Turn the Current Pattern
Turn the current origami pattern to the other side.
Step 7: Form the Top Part
Notice the thin flaps along the closed side of the current pattern; use the tip of your finger to open them from the top. Carefully open and then flatten the flaps with the origami pattern.
Step 8: Fold and Flatten Symmetrically

Similarly, fold and flatten the other side. These will form the top part of the origami heart bookmark.
Step 9: Fold-in the Open Corners

Fold in the open sides of the flattened flaps. Now, make small folds on the top corners of the flaps.
Step 10: Fold in the Sides

Fold in the right side of the current pattern and align it with the middle crease. Similarly, fold in the left side of the current pattern and align it with the middle crease.
Origami Heart Bookmark with Long Tail

Step 1: Marking A Folding Point

Prepare a 1:2 ratio paper. We’re using a 3″ x 6″ paper. Hold a corner of the rectangle sheet, align its shorted side with the adjacent longer side and press the open ends of the fold. Do not make a full fold, because we don’t need crease for this part.
Step 2: First Basic Fold

Unfold the first fold. Now, fold the same short side inwards, along the middle of the rectangle sheet’s longer side.
Step 3: Making Vertical and Horizontal Creases

Unfold the last fold again. Now, fold the longer side of the sheet in half and then unfold. We have vertical and horizontal base creases done.
Step 4: Folding a Corner

Fold in the opposite short side’s corner and align it with the long-half crease. Similarly, fold in the short side’s other corner.
Step 5: Folding the Longer Sides

Fold in the longer edge along the long-half crease. Similarly, fold in the other side of the longer edge.
Step 6: Folding the Longer Side Again

Fold in the longer edge along the long-half crease for the second time. Similarly, fold in the other side of the longer edge. This is the final strip size of our origami heart bookmark.
Step 7: Folding Along a Previous Crease

Unfold the last 2 folds along the longer side. Remember the first vertical fold? Fold (mountain fold) the current pattern along that crease.
Step 8: Folding Small Corners

Now, place the current pattern on a flat surface. Fold in the closed corners along the adjacent creases on both sides.
Step 9: Folding the Heart’s Top Part

Now, unfold the last 2 corners and the vertical fold. Push in the pattern along the small diagonal creases formed by the corner folds.
Step 10: Forming the Heart’s Tops Part

Fold in the corners along the diagonal creases and fold the pattern along the vertical crease again.
Step 11: Forming the Top Corners

The current pattern should have a small slit on the top. We will form the top part of the heart. Fold in the corners on both sides of the slit. Fold in the outer corners. The current pattern should now have 2 pointy edges.
Step 12: Folding the Top Corners

Turn the current pattern to the other side and fold in the longer sides again. Make small folds on the top of the 2 pointy edges. The top part of the heart shape is complete.
Step 13: Flipping the Heart Shape

Turn the current pattern to the other side. Flip the wide part to 180 degrees.
Step 14: Folding the Heart’s Bottom Corner

Fold in an open corner and align it along the middle of the current pattern. Similarly, fold in and align the other corner. The heart shape is ready.

Now, flip the heart shape back to its right position. And out origami heart bookmark is ready. You can simply insert a page between the heart and the strip part.
Tips for Beginners: Origami Heart Bookmark
If this is your first time trying an origami heart bookmark, don’t worry—we’ve got you covered. Here are some simple tips to make your crafting experience smooth and fun!
Start with Thin Paper: Thinner paper is easier to fold and helps you achieve sharp, neat creases. Avoid thick or textured paper on your first try—it can make folding tricky.
Work on a Flat Surface: A clean, flat surface is your best friend for origami. It helps you keep the folds precise and makes the process easier.
Take Your Time: Don’t rush! Fold each step carefully and align the edges properly before making a crease. Patience is key to perfecting your bookmark.
Use a Bone Folder or Substitute: If you want super crisp folds, use a bone folder or a ruler to press down along the creases. This makes your bookmark look sharp and professional.
Practice with Scrap Paper First: If you’re nervous about using your favorite paper, practice with some scrap paper. Once you get the hang of the steps, move on to the prettier paper.
Decorate and Personalize: After folding, you can add a personal touch by decorating your bookmark. Use markers, stickers, or glitter to make it uniquely yours!
Remember, the most important thing is to enjoy the process. Mistakes are part of the fun, and each fold will get better with practice.
