Who doesn’t like smooth and glossy satin ribbons! I love’em! Satin ribbons can be used to make a number of craft projects and of course, satin ribbon flowers are one of the popular ones.

How to Make Ribbon Flowers

Supplies:

  • Satin ribbon -1 inch wide
  • Scissors
  • Lighter
  • Needle and thread
  • Felt
  • Hot glue gun
  • Large bead

Instructions:

Step 1: Cut the Ribbon

Cut a piece of ribbon, around 6-8 inches should work. The longer the ribbon the more ruffles you can create. Anyways, Prepare needle and thread. Simply running stitches along any one side of the ribbon, lengthwise. Make sure to keep 2 inches of extra thread at the start.

Step 2: Create a Small Ruffle on the Ribbon

After stitching hold the first 2 inches of the thread and pull the thread on the other end to create ruffles on the ribbon. Bring both ends together (width ends) and stitch them together. We created a ruffled ribbon flower.

Step 3: Create a Bigger Ruffle on Ribbon

Similarly, create another ruffled ribbon flower but this time keep it slightly bigger than the first one. To do so, cut a ribbon 2 inches longer than the first ribbon. Cut out a round piece of felt, this should cover the center hole of the large ruffled ribbon flower.  Cut out 2 leaf shapes from green satin fabric or ribbon and burn their edges using a lighter. Select a large faux pearl bead (mine was 18mm).

Step 4: Glue and Join the Ruffled Ribbons

Prepare your hot-glue gun. Glue the leaves at the edge of the felt piece and then glue the large ruffled ribbon flower on the felt piece. Now glue the small ruffled ribbon flower on the top of the large one and finally glue the bead on the center.

Step 5: Finishing and Using the Ribbon Flowers

Tada! Now you can attach use this flower to make so many accessories. You can make a brooch-pin, hair-clip, headband, or use it for other craft decorations.
